PARENTHOOD IN-HOME SESSION // FROM GENDER REVEAL TO BIRTH

CONNOR + ABBI

Eleven years of documenting Connor and Abbi’s story, from dating, engagement, and wedding, has now led to their most meaningful chapter yet: welcoming Charlie. They revealed Charlie’s gender through a lovely bouquet made by our mutual friend, Olivia from Hound Hill Flower Farm in Maryland. It was such a special moment being the one to UNWRAP the bouquet, seeing the blue flowers and shedding a quick tear before handing it over to Connor. Both Abbi and he had their eyes closed, and I recall the nervous excitement filling the space.

When Connor presented the bouquet to Abbi, their reaction moved my heart. It’s hard to explain the joy that new parents share when they receive this type of news. As I documented the moment, I observed how each was expressing themselves. Connor couldn’t retain his laughter and excitement, while Abbi cried and shared vulnerably, “I hope I’ll be a good mom… I don’t know anything about raising a boy.” I’m sure many moms can empathize in one way or another.

Fast-forward to two weeks after Charlie was born, and we came together again to photograph his tiny, TINY nose, toes, and more. I spent three hours watching them go about their routine (and breaking it for the photos, LOL). Once again, we preserved a historic moment in their lives- now a forever memory held within imagery.

What an honor, truly, it has been to walk through these seasons together. I don’t often tell my “clients” I secretly cry during sessions, but I had to step away both days, telling myself to hold the joy-filled tears together because, “Liz, you need to USE THESE EYES!”
